Mission

Council Member Lane Santa Cruz and the Ward 1 staff advocate for policies that expand community access to the programs and services of City Hall and provide for greater economic affordability for Tucsonans in the Westside, Southwest, and Downtown area. Rooted in principles of social and economic justice, our governance directly seeks to engage and consult with marginalized members of the community. Ward 1 staff design community engagement and constituency services that nurture dialogue, understanding and create conditions for community growth and transformation.

Council Member Santa Cruz was sworn into office in December 2023 for their second four-year term. As a candidate, Lane campaigned on the promise of supporting liveable communities through housing affordability and historic preservation; mobility justice; investing in youth; arts and cultura; and small business and worker-owned/cooperative development and workers’ rights.
